Roger Ver began investing in Bitcoin in 2011, with his first investment being in Charlie Shrem’s Bitinstant. He also invested in companies like Ripple, Blockchain.info and Kraken. His early advocacy for Bitcoin is what earned him the moniker of Bitcoin Jesus. He was a previous supporter of Bitcoin, believing it to be a means to promote economic freedom.
Following the hard fork, he sided with Bitcoin Cash. In 2002, Ver pleaded guilty to selling explosives without a licence, to illegally storing explosives, and to mailing the explosives, and served 10 months in prison. Roger Ver is unmarried. In April 2014, Roger Ver gained control of Bitcoin.com. Roger Ver believes cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash are technically superior to Bitcoin, and one day Bitcoin Cash will surpass Bitcoin to become the world’s most valuable cryptocurrency. Before that happens though, he believes Ethereum will knock Bitcoin off the number one spot.
