BSV soars 75% as Craig Wright tries copyrighting BTC's code, whitepaper

While the market is once again in the green, one project stands out among the rest. Bitcoin SV is surging over 75% after news broke that Craig Wright has attempted to copyright Bitcoin’s whitepaper and the original code.

Wright has filed the registrations with the US Copyright Office in support of his argument that he authored Bitcoin’s whitepaper under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto and wrote the original code for Bitcoin. The registration pertains specifically to "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” and “Bitcoin.”

It's important to note, however, that the registration doesn’t imply ownership nor is it an official patent. Anyone is free to register anything through the copyright process.

This hasn’t stopped BSV fans from buying, however, as the coin surged as much as 120% on the back of the news, bringing it to a high of $140. While the price has relaxed a little since then, BSV is still 75.92% in the green, trading at $107.74 at the time of writing.

In an attempt to provide some clarity, several people have taken to Twitter explaining that this doesn’t mean Wright has legal ownership over Bitcoin’s whitepaper or the original code.

As Jerry Brito, executive director at Coin Center notes, registering a copyright is just filling out a form:

As others have pointed this out as well:

CoinDesk reached out to well-known Wright critic, Jameson Lopp, who eloquently said “LOL.”
