WhatsApp users can now send BTC/LTC to each other with Lite.im bot

A newly-released bot from crypto messaging service Lite.im will be a big step forward for crypto adoption. The software will enable WhatsApp users to send and receive Bitcoin (BTC) and Litecoin (LTC) to each other from within the app.

The popular mobile messaging platform WhatsApp is owned by Facebook, and there have been rumours of the social media giant releasing its own crypto alongside a new payment service that would integrate with the app.

In recent months a fiat-pegged 'Facebook Coin' crypto token was confirmed for sometime in the future. A company called Waubit also announced that it would be rolling out a service that would integrate crypto with WhatsApp. This new Lite.im software has beaten them both to the punch with a payment bot that is also compatible with Facebook's Messenger app, as well as Telegram.

The software supports Bitcoin (BTC) and Litecoin (LTC), and users can directly send and receive the cryptos to a wallet, from within the message screen. Zulu Republic, the blockchain ecosystem that supports Lite.im and others, announced in a tweet that Lightning Network support was also likely to be introduced sometime soon.
