Mainstream interest for Bitcoin hits 14-month high after Bitcoin beats $8k

Bitcoins recent retaliation against the bears which saw it surge above $8k once again sees to cause a ripple which transcended the crypto community and was felt by the mainstream, as Google trends report a 14-month high for Bitcoin search interest.

2019 has been a fantastic year of Bitcoin’s price action citing 125% year-to-date returns this far, interestingly google trends seem to correlate along with this surge, with searches spike whenever Bitcoin does the same.

Results currently relay that searches have hit a high not seen since February 2018, during the beginning of bitcoin’s descent into the bear winter following BTC’s drop from $20,000.

Levels of interest have peaked from country to country with South Africa reportedly most bullish on Bitcoin searches followed by the Netherlands, Slovenia, Austria and Nigeria.

Bullish developments within the crypto industry are likely the propagating factor for this growing retail interest.

Development such as last week’s announcement from Bakkt that they will begin testing Bitcoin futures contracts ion July, along with the recent partnership between Gemini and Flexa, which has enabled cryptocurrency payments within major retailers such as Starbucks and Wholefoods.

The growing hubbub around Bitcoin is also thanks in part to mainstream coverage of BTC’s recent rise.

Interestingly 60 minutes – a popular news show on CBS – will be airing an episode dedicated to Bitcoin tonight; the news of which has filled the crypto community with an equal measure of positivity and dread depending on which angle the program decides to go with.

Some believe the negative aspects of Bitcoin will be focused on, much as they have in the past. Others, however, reiterated the adage, ‘any publicity is good publicity.’
