Barclays' former head of digital assets hired by Fidelity

Financial services giant Fidelity Investments has hired the former head of digital assets at Barclays Bank.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Chris Taylor joined Fidelity at the end of April. His profile doesn’t go into much more detail aside from mentioning “Digital Assets.”

Tyler worked as the head managing director of digital assets projects at Barclays for around eight months before leaving the firm in August, CoinDesk reports. Prior to that, he was head of commodity trading at the bank between 2015 and 2017.

Tyler had previously worked at Barclays in 2001 until 2011 as the director and global head of crude oil trading. He then worked at commodity trading company Mercuria Energy Group as a senior crude oil trader for around three years before returning to Barclays in 2015.

His most recent role at Barclays saw him exploring the crypto industry.

Barclays had planned on launching a cryptocurrency trading desk later this year, but the bank’s CEO has since confirmed that, currently, there are no immediate plans to launch the desk. Fidelity also hired Coinbase's head of institutional assets, Christine Sandler just last month.

Fidelity Investments recently commissioned a survey that revealed almost half of the institutional investors polled consider cryptocurrencies to be a worthy investment.
