5 flirts of Elon Musk with Bitcoin, Ethereum and the crypto space

Elon Musk might be one of the biggest and wealthiest cryptocurrency fans, despite his Bitcoin holdings being less than 1 BTC. Over the last period, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX has regularly flirted with the crypto space. These are the 5 biggest Bitcoin and cryptocurrency flirts by Musk.

1. 'Ethereum'
It's not often that Musk speaks his mind on cryptocurrency. Most of the time, the South African entrepeneur is just innocently flirting with crypto, such as in this latest tweet. On April 30, Musk caused excitement by tweeting out just one single word: 'Ethereum', purposely teasing the crypto community.

Shortly after, Musk tweeted 'jk', an abbreviation of 'joke'. But only sending out the word Ethereum was enough for the community to get hysterical, with influential players jumping in right away.

After which Musk replied, referring to the many crypto scams on Twitter...

Meanwhile, the competition tried to jump on the hype too...

2. CEO of Dogecoin...
Musk's Ethereum tweet was not his first time referring to a project other than Bitcoin on his Twitter account. Earlier in April, Musk said that 'Dogecoin might be my fav cryptocurrency. It's pretty cool.' Later he added to that: 'Dogecoin rulz'.

Following this tweet, Dogecoin promoted Elon Musk to CEO of the project, a role that Musk accepted with pride... for a very short time.

3. Musk's Bitcoin holdings
So with all the buzz around Musk and cryptocurrency, what are his actual holdings? Has the tech entrepeneur invested in Bitcoin or any altcoin? The answer is: NO.

In a tweet in February 2019, Musk revealed that he only owns 0.25 BTC, 'which a friend sent me several years ago. I don't have any crypto holdings'.

In 2017, Musk even admitted that he doesn't know where the 0.25 BTC he received currently is. However, not buying Bitcoin now doesn't mean Musk never will in the future. But maybe first a lesson 'how to safely store your cryptocurrency holdings'...

4. 'Wanna buy some Bitcoin?'gets Musk blocked
In October 2018, Musk tweeted out a picture of an anime girl in a Bitcoin dress, with the text: 'Wanna buy some Bitcoin?'.

Another bullish sign for the crypto community, but not for Twitter. The account of Musk got locked soon after, because Twitter thought Musk's account got hacked.

5. 'I want ETH even if it's a scam'
Two months earlier, Crypto Twitter was still full of scammers trying to take ETH or BTC from people by organizing so-called giveaways with fake celebrity accounts. With these giveaways, crypto enthusiasts had to send a certain amount of ETH or BTC, so that the 'celebrity-scammers' could send back ten times as much. Yeah, right...

Fake accounts of Elon Musk were one of the most popular amongst scammers, and this led to a comment from the real Elon on ETH. After discussing all the ETH scammers on Twitter, Musk said that 'at this point, I want ETH even if it is a scam'. A real homerun for the Ethereum community!

What Musk really thinks of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency
All these tweets are innocent flirts, only giving attention to the cryptocurrency space, but not meaning much as long as Musk keeps his tweets as mysterious as they are.

That's why his biggest flirt with crypto comes from interviews in which the tech entrepeneur explains more about his interest in the space. In ARK Invest's FYI Podcast, Musk said earlier this year that cryptocurrency is 'a far better way to transfer value than pieces of paper. That's for sure. Without a doubt.'

Musk later added that 'I have many friends who are very involved with crypto. I mean I think the Bitcoin structure was quite brilliant.' Comments that prove Musk actually is a fan of Bitcoin and crypto.

More recently, Musk addmitted that 'cryptocurrency is my safe word'. Now let's hope one of the richtest and most influential entrepeneurs in modern times wants to openly enter the crypto market too.
