Jaguar Land Rover drivers will earn IOTA for sharing data

One of the world's leading car manufacturers has partnered with the IOTA project, as reported by Reuters. A new scheme will allow Jaguar Land Rover drivers to earn the crypto in exchange for sharing important data

Jaguar Land Rover is in the process of developing a smart wallet system that will be pre-installed in its new models. It will allow drivers to earn IOTA tokens, by enabling their vehicles to automatically report useful data concerning things like traffic congestion or potholes, to navigation providers or local authorities.

Drivers could also receive IOTA in exchange for participating in ridesharing schemes. The earned IOTA tokens can then be used to pay for tolls, parking, and charging for electric vehicles.

According to IOTA co-founder and co-chairman of its board Dominik Schiener, "the smart wallet technology...can be easily adapted into all new vehicles...IOTA wants to enable interoperability with all these different players. So there is no Jaguar coin, no BMW coin, but one universal token for this machine economy".

The company has been testing the crypto technology at its newly-opened software engineering base in Shannon, Ireland. Engineers have equipped several vehicles with the smart wallet, including the Jaguar F-PACE and Range Rover Velar.
