Poll reveals just 2% of Russians have invested in Bitcoin

According to a recent poll conducted by the Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM). According to the results, Bitcoin hasn’t gained in popularity as 65% of people who have heard about them consider them to be a bad investment.

While the research center hasn’t indicated a time frame nor the number of people polled, it states that 56% of Russians have heard about Bitcoin, while 18% have only heard of the term itself. Additionally, the report states that the actual knowledge about Bitcoin is rather weak, with 12% of those aware of the cryptocurrency believe it to be banned in the country.

President Vladimir Putin ordered the creation of cryptocurrency regulations in April, which many viewed as promising. However, last month, crypto websites that don’t adhere to proper KYC regulation have been blocked by the government. In February, Putin set a deadline for the state to adopt crypto regulation by July 1, 2019.

The poll goes on to say that 9% of Russians have detailed knowledge about Bitcoin. the level of awareness rises with the younger population groups. 67% of 18-24-year-olds are aware of Bitcoin, while 66% of men and 71% of people with higher education are aware of the cryptocurrency.

The report concludes by saying that two-thirds of Russians who are aware of Bitcoin (65%) consider it a dangerous investment, while only 2% have bought Bitcoin.
