Reddit user discovers Twitch has quietly removed crypto payment options

A Reddit user recently took to the social media platform to share the discovery that video streaming service Twitch removed Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash as payment options for subscriptions.

User f7ddfd505a noted the service used to have an option to pay through Bitpay, but has since quietly been removed over the last few weeks as a payment method for all countries. One user responded by stating they’ve canceled all their subscriptions and sent an assistance ticket to the Amazon-owned company.

Another user points out that Streamlabs, popular streaming software often used by Twitch users to receive tips, has also removed the ability to donate with cryptocurrencies. The user states it used to be possible to link a Coinbase account with Streamlabs. However, with the new update, this feature is no longer available. They reportedly asked the company if they would be re-enabling this feature. Their reply stated they have no plans to reenable donations through cryptocurrency.

In June last year, Chepicap reported popular travel website Expedia had also removed Bitcoin as a payment option for flights and hotels.

Twitch began accepting cryptocurrencies in June 2018 but wasn’t widely known amongst its users. Many Redditors theorize it was this lack of awareness that resulted in its removal.
