Enjin (ENJ) partners with Unity game engine to provide blockchain SDK

Unity, a powerhouse in game developing claiming to be present in 3 billion devices worldwide, powering 50% of mobile games, counting 2000 employees and 10.2 billion adds served on a monthly basis, has teamed up with one of the hottest crypto projects as of late, Enjin (ENJ).

The Enjin blockchain software development kit (SDK) is now available to about 4.5 million Unity developers, according to a recent press release from the company. The modular SDK will allow Unity developers to integrate ERC-1155 blockchain assets to their games and manage gameplay mechanics with transactions through the Ethereum blockchain.

Enjincoin has been performing incredibly well over the last month. Following rumors of its inclusion in the new Samsung S10 crypto wallet, its market capitalization increased by about seven times from previous levels and reached peaks over $185 million, coming from barely $25 million at mid February, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

According to its GitHub repository, the ERC-1155 Multi Token Standard constitutes an interface for contracts managing any combination of multiple token types. Meanwhile, other standards such as ERC-20 require deployment of several contracts in case there are more than one types of tokens involved. The ERC-721 standard goes one step further, allowing for a single non-fungible index deployed as a single contract with settings for the entire collection.

The motivation section in the repository clarifies the functions of the ERC-1155 standard with regard to the tokenization of videogames mechanics and transactions:

“Tokens standards like ERC-20 and ERC-721 require a separate contract to be deployed for each token type or collection. This places a lot of redundant bytecode on the Ethereum blockchain and limits certain functionality by the nature of separating each token contract into its own permissioned address. With the rise of blockchain games and platforms like Enjin Coin, game developers may be creating thousands of token types, and a new type of token standard is needed to support them. However, ERC-1155 is not specific to games, and many other applications can benefit from this flexibility”.

According to Witek Radomski, Enjin CTO, the advantages of the integration will extend to users as well: “Blockchain will absolutely shine in the gaming context. It will give gamers ownership of their gaming items and blur the lines between the virtual and real world”.
