Report: Ethereum has more active developers than any other cryptocurrency

According to a report by crypto asset management firm Electric Capital, Ethereum has the most developers working on its base protocol than any other cryptocurrency, excluding community project developers.

As per the report, Electric Capital fingerprinted over 20,000 code repositories and 16 million commits to create the report, which has revealed that on average, 216 developers contribute code every month to Ethereum’s repositories. The report states that this number doesn’t include ecosystem projects like Truffle.

By comparison, Bitcoin, which the report also states has a very healthy ecosystem, has more than 50 developers contribute to Bitcoin’s repositories every month. This data also doesn’t include ecosystem projects.

When just looking at contributors to core protocol, the report states that “Etherum is by far the most active at 99 monthly developers on average.” Other big platforms like EOS, Cardano and TRON all have over 25 monthly core protocol developers on average.

The report goes on to say that, while market prices have continued to fall, developers who entered the crypto market have continued to build. From January 2018 to January 2019, active monthly developers fell by 4% while markets fell more than 80%. Additionally, the number of developers working on public coins has doubled over the last two years.

However, projects like Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoin Diamond have had less than five developers per month since October 2018.
