Crypto is great, but the world isn't ready for it yet, says Kaspersky

Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of Kaspersky Labs a cybersecurity company, has asserted that while cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) are “great,” the world isn’t quite ready for them... yet.

In an interview with Dubai based business publication Arabian Business. Kaspersky offered the opinion that crypto would one day supersede fiat currencies, but caveated, adding that the world wasn’t ready for them and governments aren’t ready to relinquish control:

“Cryptocurrencies are a great idea, but the world is not ready for them yet. The world must be united if we want to have encrypted currencies. At the moment, governments will want to control them.”

Giving a time frame, and sounding slightly apocalyptic at the same time, Kaspersky suggested that it may take 100 years for crypto to overthrow fiat and not until all governments are united under the “government of the earth…”

“I believe that in the future, perhaps in 100 years’ time, all the world’s governments will be one government. States will unite under the (Government of the Earth) and only then we will have one currency. Some other currencies may be available, but on a global scale the currency will be unified.”

… Fair enough

However, Kaspersky also noted that Bitcoin may not be the one to overthrow the current financial system, positing that future currencies may use “some of the ideas and techniques” of BTC, instead, creating a new currency, “with little modification, leveraging blockchain technology.”

Kaspersky is a self-made billionaire, thanks to his years of experience within cybersecurity, something which also makes him pretty well versed in the world of crypto.

His thoughts are (for the most part) shared with many, including the Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman, who recently offered up similar sentiment within a post on Linkedin, stating that “cryptocurrencies could still be a global currency of the future,” adding “The invention itself is a tremendous demonstration of genius and creativity, and it deserves an opportunity to find a sustainable future in our economy.”
