Fortnite creator Tim Sweeney defends EOS from criticisms

Tim Sweeney, the founder of Epic Games, has come to the defense of EOS on Twitter. He questioned a warning that was issued by one user, about the negative effects of the blockchain's continued growth.

Epic Games is the company behind online gaming phenomenon Fortnite, which was recently linked to the crypto space through adoption of Monero (XMR) as a payment option. This was apparently a temporary glitch in the game's merchandise store.

The EOS blockchain, whose scalability was its main selling point at launch, is now apparently 4 TB of data in total. It has grown to this level in just eight months. Twitter user @trent_vanepps pointed out that this was causing major downtime for the network.

According to Sweeney, this size is still not a significant problem for the blockchain. As block producers continue to profit from their status, they will be able to afford a relatively small investment in a new hard drive every now and then. This provoked a discussion about how the data needs to be stored, and whether the growth model is sustainable.
