BitTorrent opens 'early access group' for BitTorrent Speed dApp

Tron founder Justin Sun has announced via Twitter that an 'early access group' is now open for BitTorrent Speed. Users can sign up to get a chance to try out the dApp, which is due to launch in Q2 of this year.

BitTorrent's new Speed dApp will be the first use case for its BitTorrent Token (BTT), and is likely to be the most important one for the time being. It is designed to allow users to make BTT bids in order to get priority access to files, while others can earn BTT by keeping their files active. This should improve torrent download speeds overall by optimizing the allocation of resources on the BitTorrent network and incentivizing seeds to stay connected.

The jury is still out on whether BitTorrent Token will be a success, as the involvement of Justin Sun and his Tron (TRX) network in a project often invites scepticism. Either way, BitTorrent Speed is sure to be one of the more popular dApps when it eventually launches, due to the established network of 100 million users that it has access to. It's unclear how many of those will be eager to try out the new features, though, and the popularity of this 'early access' phase could be a useful indicator of where the project is headed.
