Elon Musk reveals his BTC amount while joking about giving Satoshi a Nobel

Just one day after praising Bitcoin, Elon Musk has revealed he only owns a small amount of cryptocurrency. All of which is Bitcoin.

After yesterday’s interview on the ARK Invest podcast in which Musk said the Bitcoin structure is “quite brilliant” and referred to cryptocurrencies as a “far better way of transferring value than pieces of paper,” he tweeted:

The news shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as Musk revealed early last year that he only owns 0.25 BTC “that a friend sent me years ago.”

In response, Anthony Pompliano, crypto personality and founder at Morgan Creek, asked Elon Musk to send him a Lightning Network invoice or a Bitcoin wallet address so that he could send Musk some more Bitcoin. “We have to get you using the future global reserve currency of the world,” Pomp says.

Additionally, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhou weighed in on the conversation:

Musk also tweeted that “whoever owns the early BTC deserves a Nobel prize in delayed gratification”

It’s believed that at one time, Satoshi controlled Bitcoin wallets that held as much as 1 million BTC that have never been spent. Consensus is that it’s because either Satoshi has died or has lost access to the wallets. Still, at the peak of the crypto boom, those funds would have been worth nearly $20 billion - a fortune that rivals Musk’s.
