Bitcoin (BTC) symbol is now on Google Keyboard

A Twitter user (@jpthor) has recently spotted a relatively new addition to Google's Keyboard functionality for Android and iOS. A long press of the dollar symbol now gives users ₿, a rendering of the Bitcoin symbol. 

Anyone wanting to write about Bitcoin on their mobile device will now find the process made a little easier, and finding out the latest Bitcoin price from Google will also be more straightforward. This might not seem like a big deal in itself, but the introduction of a Bitcoin symbol by Google's developers is one step towards more widespread adoption and acceptance, and it also suggests a recognition by the software giant that there is still demand and interest in Bitcoin and crypto.

This introduction of a Bitcoin symbol was a step first taken by Apple, in the iOS 12e version of its proprietary mobile device operating system. It was brought in as part of a shortcuts app, to help Siri carry out simple commands, but was not available to type or send as an emoji.
