Flappy Bird returns: popular iOS game now on EOS/TRX blockchains

Hugely successful iOS game Flappy Bird has returned as a DApp. The EOS and Tron blockchains are currently hosting versions of the software, that allow users to play for free as well as winning tokens.

Launched back in 2014, Flappy Bird was eventually removed from the iOS app store by developer Dong Nguyen, who apparently was struggling to deal with the media attention as well as his guilt over the game's incredibly addictive nature. Now, anyone who missed out on that lo-fi screen tapping craze has an opportunity to see what all the fuss was about, with a new cloned version of the software.

DailyHodl reports that the new DApp version of Flappy Bird on EOS has just 57 users over the last 7 days with 154 transactions, which is the equivalent of 3 EOS. However, there also appears to be a Tron-based version of the game, with 135 users in the last 7 days. This slightly more popular version has just over 7,000 TRX worth of transactions.

Little information is provided by either platform, and it's unclear which Flappy Bird clone is the original blockchain port. The top TRX blockchain game in the last 7 days was Epic Dragons, while EOS Knights rules the roost on the EOS blockchain. Both have around 7,000 unique users in the last 7 days, which suggests that the DApp eco-system still has some way to go before it can compete with more centralized applications.
