BitTorrent’s longtime CEO leaves the company, coincides with the BTT token launch

BitTorrent's longtime CEO, Rogelio Choy leaves the company, in coincident with the launch of BTT Token.

Six months after their acquisition by blockchain entrepreneur and TRON’s CEO, Justin Sun, BitTorrent’s longtime CEO, Rogelio Choy is reported to quit his position and leave the company.

The occurrence coincides with the launch of the company’s token, the BTT token, which sparks rumor that Choy’s departure is caused by something more than just a decision “to pursue other opportunities” as the company’s spokesperson stated.

Choy joined BitTorrent as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2012, a position he held for 3 years before he resigned to join an on-demand startup in 2015.

In 2017, he rejoined the company as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), until the acquisition, after which he became TRON’s Head of Storage Business Unit.

Additionally, Choy’s professional profile on LinkedIn shows that his position at TRON Foundation lasted until December 2018, which then followed by his tenure as President and COO of Eaze, a San Fransisco-based cannabis marketplace startup

Rumor has it that there had been disagreements with BitTorrent Foundation’s new CEO, Justin Sun about where the company should be taken in the future.

The rumor is refuted by Sun’s spokesperson, which instead saying, “The two had a good working relationship. People leave companies in normal course of business.”

“Tron has been steadily filling out its executive ranks with hires of seasoned people from Google, S&P and elsewhere,” the spokesperson added.

According to Variety, one possible disagreement is BitTorrent’s escalating focus on cryptocurrency, which is shown through the company’s multiple updates, such as the launch of µTorrent web last September and the recent BTT token on Binance Launchpad.

No official statements have been made by both BitTorrent and TRON on this matter, even when the company is actively reaching out to the public about their newly-launched BTT Token.

Choy, on the other hand, can be seen congratulating the company he just left and TRON for the token launch, while also commending Sun as the man behind it.
