Bitmain to release new Antminer crypto mining hardware

Chinese Bitcoin mining giant Bitmain has announced the release of its first new hardware for some time. The new Antminer crypto mining chips will be available to buy from November 8.

The Antminer S15 and T15 are both 7 nanometer ASIC chips, and they have been specifically designed to mine the SHA256 hashing algorithm. The price of the hardware hasn't yet been confirmed, leaving some doubt as to whether the chips are worth the investment, as the profitability of Bitcoin mining continues to fall. Some reactions on Twitter pointed this out, as well as criticizing the general quality of Bitmain hardware and the company's business model.

After establishing itself as the leading crypto mining firm last year, and continuing past the end of the bull run until the second quarter of 2018, Bitmain's fortunes have changed for the worse recently. Demand for mining hardware in general is no longer anywhere near the levels that it was at the start of the year, and many competitors have started to edge ahead of Bitmain in terms of quality. With mining profits falling and the company's crypto holdings losing value, Bitmain's planned $1 billion IPO is now looking increasingly unlikely to go ahead.
