Sony announces the development of a 'multiple application' contactless hard-wallet

Japanese technology giant Sony has announced their research team has developed a contactless cryptocurrency wallet, according to a press release.

While the device doesn’t yet have a name, the press release states that the science branch of the company – Sony Computer Science Laboratories – have explained that the device uses IC smart card technology that includes mutual authentication/encrypted communication technology.

Furthermore, Sony’s wallet, unlike existing hardware wallets, is said to do away with the need of connecting the wallet via a USB cable.

Sony has been involved with cryptocurrencies and blockchain for some time. In early August, the tech giant announced. it had filed two patents for blockchain hardware, one titled "Electronic Node and Method for Maintaining a Distributed Ledger", and the other "Device and System." More recently, Sony Pictures joined forces with Greenfence Consumer to create and distribute trading cards for the recently released move of Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween.
