Florida Tax Collector to accept Bitcoin

A Florida based tax collector has partnered with BitPay a bitcoin payments processor. The move is to allow cryptocurrency payments in return for tax services.

Joel Greenberg a Seminole County tax collector said in a statement that the decision was reached by part due to fees associated with the processing of debit and credit cards. Paying with bitcoin would eliminate most of these fees while improving transparency and efficiency. Greenberg also said in a statement that he wishes to bring his office into the 21st century.

“The aim of my tenure in office is to make our customer experience faster, smarter and more efficient, and to bring government services from the 18th century into the 21st century, and one way is the addition of cryptocurrency to our payment options.”

This collaboration is perfectly in line with BitPay’s mission statement:

“BitPay was started because we recognized the potential for blockchain to revolutionize the

financial industry, making payments faster, more secure, and less expensive on a global scale,”.
