Ripple's XRP is officially the number two cryptocurrency. XRP has today overtaken Ethereum, with the last gap of $2 billion closed within one hour.
The last few days XRP made huge gains, and the attention it got from rising from $0,27 to $0,57 in a matter of days gave the last push to make the flippening happen today. Ripple's token has a market cap of over $23.5 billion, while Ethereum's market cap is $23.3 billion.
On December 29, Ripple already overtook Ethereum with a market cap of $73 billion after 43% gains on one day. Soon after Ethereum took the second spot back.
XRP has been making huge gains over the last few days, following two announcements. First, Ripple announced that their new cross-border payment system xRapid will go live in less than two months, and on Wednesday, PNC joined RippleNet as the first major US bank.
However, it seems that the media attention following the Ripple announcements and the 'flippening talk' is the biggest reason behind the surge of XRP.
At the time of writing, XRP is worth $0,59 (61% up today). Ethereum is valued at $228 (7,6%).
