Digital CarPass, a project that is in partnership with Volkswagen and IOTA (MIOTA), announced that it is near completion and will soon be available for public use.
The purpose of Digital CarPass is a way to distribute blockchain technology and and use a distributed ledger for vehicles telematics data. This data can included where the car went, what it did, and how it was treated. For example, it can prevent mileage tampering, and protect against odometer fraud, much of which you see in the used vehicle market.
As reported by Calcalist Tech, CarPass is expected to launch in early 2019. This comes from the head of blockchain at Volkswagen, Benjamin Sinram.
Some other things Sinram is working on is an open ledger which can be used to track the supply chain of cars from manufacturer to customer. They are also working on a “charging protocol”, which runs on the Ethereum network.
