A Brazilian architect is launching a ‘crypto hostel’ near Rio Di Janeiro, according to local publication Portaldo do Bitcoin.
Appropriately named ‘Hostel Bitcoin,’ the establishment will be Brazil’s first hotel to accept cryptocurrency as payment. According to the architect Alessandro Santos, his decision to accept bitcoin as payment stems from a desire to attract tourists and foreign interest in the inn.
Santos is an amateur crypto-trader, but noted that many tourists had interest in the burgeoning crypto market in Brazil, and notes that tourists routinely stop to take pictures of the new building, currently adorned with the bitcoin logo and other cryptocurrencies.
Bitcoin is the first such token to be accepted, but Santos has plans to introduce Ripple, Monero, and other tokens which can be traded on Bitrex.
Santos also has his sights set on selling BTC out of the hotel, but declined to expound due to a confidentiality agreement.
The rise of establishments like Hostel Bitcoin accepting BTC and other cryptocurrencies is a major step towards making cryptocurrency a mainstream technology, and spreading the blockchain into the financial dealings of everyday consumers.
