Akon announces the Akoin project to help bring wealth to Africans

Following the successful ICO of Akoin, award-winning musician Akon is announcing the launch of the Akoin project.

Chepicap first reported that Akon expressed interest in using a cryptocurrency in conjunction with his Lighting Africa project to help uplift African communities that need it most. The Akon Lighting Africa (ALA) initiative has brought electricity to millions of people in Africa, operating in over 15 countries.

Now building on top of the success of his Lighting Africa project, the Akoin project is designed to create opportunities for African entrepreneurs by empowering them to create businesses and trade with consumers, as well as buy, sell, and hold cryptocurrencies all from their smartphones. The idea is to grant aspiring businesspeople the credit they need as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

The project, headed by chief executive Ryan Scott, a professional entrepreneur, investor, and advisor, has already gained significant traction in Akon’s home country of Senegal, and where the project will be launched.

One of the biggest components of the project is “Crypto City Box”, a futuristic community that will run solely on blockchain and be powered by Akoin. The city will be built on 2,000 acres have been gifted to Akon by the president of Senegal.
