Brother of Thai actor arrested in crypto scam has fled to the US

As previously reported, a Thai soap opera actor was arrested in connection to a Bitcoin scam. More details have come out and now there are a total of 9 suspects, six of which are still being sought by Thai police.

According to Thai newspaper the Bankok Post, a 22 year old Finnish crypto millionare was scammed out of around $24 million worth of bitcoins by a group of Thai fraudsters which included the well known soap opera actor arrested on August 9th.

The Nation reports that in fact the actor's brother had masterminded the scheme and enrolled his siblings in the plot, which involved luring a prominent Finnish crypto enthusiast, Aarni Otava Saarimaa, to invest in what was claimed to be new casino development and cryptocoin ventures.

While Jaravijit is still in custody, it appears that his brother Prinya has fled to the US. The CSD has contacted US immigration seeking their cooperation in capturing the suspect, and extraditing him back to Thailand to be tried for fraud and money laundering charges.
