Indian State partners with IT giant to create nation's first blockchain district

It has been reported by The Economic Times that the Indian state government of Telangana is working with Tech Mahindra, an IT firm headquartered in India, to bring about the country's first "blockchain district."

The hope for the blockchain district will be to house and bolster new blockchain based startups as well as try to bring in established companies. It will be a center for blockchain research and development. K T Rama Rao, Telangana's IT minister, was quoted:

“Telangana government is proud to pioneer Blockchain District in India. With support from Tech Mahindra, we envision to set a benchmark in providing Blockchain technology solutions and platforms across industries.”

Tech Mahindra will be providing support for the development of the actual technologies, while Telengana ITE&C department will have more of a role in regulations and policy.

This is an optimistic step forward for India, as well as the blockchain community. It will be exciting to see what new projects may spawn from the worlds first official blockchain district.
