Coinbase announced on its blog today that it is ready to roll out Ethereum Classic onto Coinbase Pro starting Tuesday, August 7th. ETC was announced on the platform a while back, with no date given for launch, until now.
Our engineering team is beginning final testing of Ethereum Classic on Coinbase products. We expect final testing to be completed by Tuesday, August 7, at which point we expect to announce that we’re ready to accept inbound transfers of ETC.https://t.co/l7smcSY3q8— Coinbase (@coinbase) August 3, 2018
Specifically, Coinbase will begin accepting inbound transfers of ETC on August 7th. They say that it will take 24-48 hours for trading to begin on the platform.
In their blog post, they also clarify what will happen for customers who held ethereum at the time that ETC forked in 2016:
"Note that customers who previously had an Ethereum Classic balance on the platform as a result of the 2016 Ethereum hard fork and did not elect to withdraw their funds prior to January 2017 will receive a corresponding Ethereum Classic credit on their Pro account."
In the hours following the announcement, ETC shot up from around $15 to around $17.
