US politician says Libra is like sending a friend request to terrorists

US Democratic congressman Brad Sherman has recently tweeted that “Mark Zuckerburg is sending a friend request to oligarchs, drug dealers, human traffickers, and terrorists” with their plans of launching Libra.

Describing Libra as the “Zuck Buck,” Sherman also accused Mark Zuckerburg of deliberately trying to bypass US anti-money laundering laws. In addition, Sherman’s tweet included a mock Facebook screenshot that showed Zuckerburg sending a friend request to Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

Included in the mock screenshot is Zuckerburg’s friend list, which includes a host of upstanding people like registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-un as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Palestinian group Hamas (who have been recognized as a terrorist organization by the US and EU).

As CoinTelegraph reports, on July 17, Sherman warned Facebook’s David Marcus that the Financial Services Committee that Libra is “the biggest thing this committee will deal with this decade,” and denied any assertions made by Marcus that Libra and Bitcoin share similarities.

In a fiery exchange, Sherman warned that if Libra “is used to finance the next horrific terrorist attack, 100 lawyers standing in a row charging $200,000 an hour, and not going to protect his [Zuckerburg’s] rear end from the wrath of the American people.”
