Bitcoin price surge sees $142 million in shorts liquidations

Following Bitcoin's continued rally upwards, that saw the cryptocurrency touch a new yearly high of $13,000, a total of $142 million in BitMex shorts have been liquidated

Bitcoin continues to climb higher and higher, with some beginning to think the top has been reached, only to find that the cryptocurrency has more gas to go higher. That is exactly what happened when Bitcoin surged past $12,000 and straight to $13,000 before correcting slightly.

BitMex stats analysis website Datamish reported over $142 million in BitMex shorts had been liquidated following the upwards move in BTC price.

BitMex shorts have not dropped off by much, with roughly 29,000 shorts currently verse 27,000 longs currently. Majority of the liquidated shorts appeared to have come from the most recent climb from $12,000 to $13,000, which saw $31.9 million in shorts being liquidated.
