Amazon Pay VP: “Libra is speculative”

Patrick Gaulthier, vice president of Amazon Pay, could not dodge the Libra question during a talk in the Brainstorm Finance 2019 forum, organized by Fortune magazine. The event took place on the 10th of June, but the video was only uploaded yesterday.

Gaulthier seemed to ground his negative to exploring forms of payments by the means of digital assets in the “trust for the Amazon brand”, an element that is held in high esteem by the company. The video of Fortune's event can be seen just below:

Therefore, according to the Amazon Pay VP, is not a matter of whether they can build something such as Libra, but of whether they should. However, he also left the door open for creating their own crypto in the future: “I’d be happy to have that conversation two or three years from now”.

As Chepicap reported last week, integrations of cryptocurrencies and Amazon are advancing amid the current period of integration of traditional firms in the industry. However, the advances are not due to Amazon’s own initiative, but to a partnership between CLIC Technology, Inc. and Opporty.

The two firms teamed up in order to provide an Ethereum and ERC standard-compatible system that allows users to purchase products using crypto in Amazon.
