EOS parent company pays $30 million to purchase domain name for Voice

According to documents filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), EOS’s parent company Block.one has paid $30 million in cash to purchase the domain name for Voice, the firm’s new blockchain-based social media platform.

The filing states that MicroStrategy Incorporated, analytics and mobility software provider, sold the domain name for $30 million in cash in a transaction facilitated by web domain registrar GoDaddy and completed on May 30, 2019.

Marge Breya, senior executive vice president and chief marketing officer at MicroStrategy said:

“The word ‘voice’ is simple and universally understood. It’s also ubiquitous — as a search term, it returns billions of results on the internet. An ultra-premium domain name like Voice.com can help a company achieve instant brand recognition, ignite a business, and massively accelerate value creation.”

As Chepicap reported, Block.one launched its social media app earlier this month. The platform is being marketed with a focus on real users, rather than bots, using the app, a reference to the issue plaguing other social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Brendan Blumer, CEO of Block.one recently told The Block that they had spent $150 million developing Voice, which is currently in beta testing though users free to sign up.
