Rumor: Ripple has reportedly acquired MoneyGram

In the last day or so, there have been tweets circulating regarding Ripple’s acquisition of MoneyGram. This has led to confusion amongst the Ripple community as there has been no formal announcement from either company. However, Twitter user Crypthawk has provided a lot of details.

Without any official confirmation, everything remains highly speculative. However, as Ethereumworldnews notes, the two companies do have a history. In January 2018, they entered into a partnership to modernize payments. part of the partnership saw MoneyGram piloting XRP in their payment flows. Additionally, MoneyGram would be integrated into xVia, one of Ripple’s products.

In January this year, PYMNTS, a source that’s proven reliable for payments and commerce-related news, published an article, citing Reuters, that MoneyGram may be looking for a buyer.

CryptHawk then followed up on their previous tweet:

The XRP Research Center then tweeted that Crypthawk was spreading false rumors, accusing the Twitter account of scamming.

When asked for a comment, Ripple CTO, David Schwartz neither confirmed nor denied the rumor, stating “No comment. Sorry,” an understandable response as many companies have rules regarding announcements. If the rumor turns out to be true, the impact of the official announcement would be severely hindered.

Meanwhile, Crypthawk doesn’t seem too bothered about the hate, asking his followers and any doubters to wait until the end of the week for an official response or a press release.
